Interactions among fungi and animals
Entomophagous fungi

Entomophthora muscae
Aekingerzand, the Netherlands; 15 July 2012.

Cordyceps militaris
Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen,
the Netherlands; 1 November 2015.
The orange structure is the fruiting body of a fungus that developed on the caterpillar or pupa of a moth. Belowground, the insect has been devoured by the fungus, which now produces its fruiting body to produce spores for dispersal.
